Dear Editor,
With the undertaking to send help to Jamaica, if the government has not considered this already, the government should tie the help to Jamaica with the current rice farmers financial jeopardy caused by the global rice surplus.
Pay the farmers a fair rate for paddy and negotiate a reduced milling cost for all rice sent to Jamaica.
Easy to see that, not only will the assistance to Jamaica be met, but the government’s promised support for struggling rice farmers will also be delivered. Jamaicans’ suffering can reduce that of the Guyanese rice farmers.
