Dear Editor,
There are some people – quite a lot of them: too many for all I care -roaming the streets of Georgetown, Robb Street and Regent Streets particularly, that are peddling an art suggesting to passersby that they can tell their future in exchange for an amount of money. I am wondering how and why these foreign nationals are allowed into Guyana to litter the sidewalks, harassing citizens while collecting money from a trade and not pay taxes.
Editor, it clearly shows that they are not otherwise gainfully employed and perhaps cannot get other employment. So who sponsored them into Guyana? Here are the various counts of criminal offences: They are not paying taxes, they are soliciting, they are harassing people, they litter or cause the streets to be littered by their pamphlets and they are working while on visitors’ visas or working in an activity/industry that the law could not or should not have issued entry into Guyana for. They do this with impunity.
Where are the GRA Officers that should be monitoring Street Traders/Peddlers or Police ranks that should be on Beat Duty to prevent citizen abuse and harassment?
