Dear Editor,
Was the 100,000 cash grant not intended to help only local Guyanese to cope with the cost of living at home? With more cash grants promised, if the Government did not blunder with that grant when eighteen years and older Guyanese residing out of Guyana could also get the grant, then the Government should make it easier for overseas claimants to get future entitlements. Some overseas claimants would have spent more to get the first grant than what the grant was.
However, if future grants are genuine shares of our foreparents inheritance to all Guyanese, then a more cost effective distribution should be in place. Until all Guyanese at home feel the benefits of the world’s fastest growing economy, cost-of-living cash grants should be limited to deserving local residents. Guyanese abroad will benefit indirectly by not having to send money home.
