Dear Editor,
I have noted the Vice President calling out the police and Mr AzMo for driving his vehicle without insurance. Editor, I have to enquire what insurance is the Vice President talking about.
My sister was involved in a vehicular accident where the other person was wrong. Her repair bill was over $250,000 and the insurance company of the wrongdoer told us that all they can pay under his policy is $20,000. Is this correct?
Is it legal for someone to drive a vehicle on the road – with insurance- and only have $20,000 cover? If that is so we might as well remove the requirement for people to have motor vehicle insurance because $20,000 is not far from zero.
I therefore call on the authorities and citizens more learned than I am in this matter to do something about it. Is this the responsibility of the Home Affairs Ministry? Or the Finance Minister? Or the Attorney General?
It is madness with the amount of accidents on the road for persons to be driving with only $20,000 worth of insurance.
With all of the fancy vehicles on the road (remember we are the new Dubai) I think it should be at least five million dollars – $5,000,000.
