Dear Editor,
What is really behind the Guyana Revenue Authority’s (GRA’s) decision to drop its case against the Mohameds? Is it to allow the extradition proceedings initiated by the United States of America to proceed? Are the Mohameds not more valuable in Guyana for Guyana than in America? Why the visible haste to get the Mohameds out of Guyana?
GRA must have strong evidence for its 191 billion Guyana dollars tax claim against the Mohameds. GRA should give priority to this over America’s request. 191 billion is almost twenty times the (USD 50 million… Guyana Dollars 10 billion) that the Americans claim the Mohameds owe Guyana.
Why not Guyana first instead of America first? America has vast experience with other countries in allowing due process for extraditions.
On the face of it, the dropping of the GRA’s tax claim is a massive loss to Guyanese.
