Dear Editor,
In May of this year, work began on the drilling of a new well at Aranaputa, North Rupununi, Region 9, purportedly under the purview of GWI and the then Ministry of Housing and Water. This well was intended to serve some residents of Constituency 1 and 2 as the well in operation at the time did not have sufficient capacity to meet the needs of the entire NDC.
Fast forward to November, and almost seven months later, the new well has still not been operationalized despite pipelines being run to houses and the drilling of the new well being completed. At present, water shortages due to the incessant dry weather are affecting the residents of Aranaputa, specifically those households which were to benefit from the new well.
As such I am kindly asking the relevant authorities to look into this matter with urgency so as to reduce water scarcity that is currently impacting the residents of Aranaputa.
