Dear Editor,
Some time ago, NIS was mandated to get all outstanding contributions matters up to date within a specified time frame. Not sure what became of that task, but it can be discerned the one-off payment for those not meeting the required threshold, was the outcome.
Now another gauntlet is thrown down: digitization of records within eight months. This follows in the same breath as the public service which must get its records in digital format within five months.
All of this as the Single Window Approval System rolled out not so long ago, continues to be plagued with issues which frustrate its efficient delivery of service.
The mandates seem domineering rather than a liberal approach.
It has to be wondered are the demanded time frames put on these sectors a contributory factor, which may result in missed deadlines and or poor delivery of services? Shouldn’t there be a testing period to iron out kinks and make improvements?
While the world is digital and we must get there, the perceived rush, with time frames that might not be practical, needs to be looked at seriously for the best outcomes.
