Dear Editor,
CRG commends Minister Manickchand on her drive towards improving the cleanliness of the capital city. She is working closely with all stakeholders and has started an initiative to keep Stabroek Square free from garbage. Her hard-work and efforts are appreciated, and we look forward to her sustaining the progress achieved.
Once a high standard of cleanliness is reached and maintained, the Government and the Georgetown Mayor’s Office should work together to restore Stabroek Market to its former glory. Renewing the structure, upgrading the facilities to first world standards, while maintaining the historical features to secure its status as a national heritage site will help elevate the market to a must-see tourist attraction. Pursuit of this initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce will also increase business for the vendors and improve the shopping experience of patrons.
By also working closely with the Ministry of Home Affairs to improve the safety and traffic management around the market square, this heritage site will be able to further extend the pedestrian and cycling experiences of Guyanese culture to enthusiastic ecotourists. A great opportunity to build upon the National Botanical Gardens and National Zoo experiences currently being offered by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
