I do admire our President’s attires. I must say he is a sharp and stylish dresser. But recently on the international stage in Belem, I was somewhat disappointed in his attire. He was surrounded by world leaders who were wearing suits while he was wearing a shirt-jacket. It was obliviously a nice color and made from a fine material. But I don’t think it blended in.
I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the Ralph Lauren brothers, one of the world’s premier fashion designers, at a network event on Christmas Eve a few years ago (if anyone should question this, I do have pictures). I was wearing tan pants, a blue pin-stripe shirt, and a blue sport jacket. Thus is a classic look anywhere in the world.
They complimented my fashion coordination. I jokingly said “I can afford your brand”. Then I showed them the brand name of my jacket. They then said to me “It’s not about wearing expensive clothes, but it’s looking presentable”. We have to train ourselves to dress in this manner at all times.
I would like to recommend to always wear a suit or a jacket when representing Guyana on the national or international stage. Someone said years ago in regards to dressing “When in doubt, wear a jacket. You can’t go wrong”.
