Dear Editor,
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Brickdam will celebrate 100 years since it was opened by Bishop Compton Theodore Galton in December 1925. This ended over 10 years of construction by the British company, Considere Construction. The Cathedral was designed by Sir Leonard Stokes who was President of the Royal Society of British Architects. It is of Romanesque design of the twelfth century.
A Festival of Trees will be held in the Cathedral on the 17 and 18 November 2025. Church groups have invited to display trees in addition to professional persons. The event will be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day. This is the first event of this kind to be held in Guyana and a fitting way to celebrate the centenary.
There will be musical renditions during the day to add to the atmosphere in the Cathedral. Admission is free but visitors can make a donation in the box provided to be used for the upkeep of the Cathedral. All are invited.
