Dear Editor,
For over two decades, Ray Rahaman and his family, along with Parc Rayne and Rent-A-Tent, have hosted a Christmas party and tree lighting ceremony for the poor, needy, and disadvantaged children of Guyana. Each year, hundreds of children attend and receive toys and Christmas gifts.
Many of these children come from families who, like mine when I was growing up, are unable to afford Christmas presents. For some, the gifts they receive at this event are the only ones they will have for Christmas.
On behalf of a grateful nation, I wish to thank the Rahaman family for bringing joy, hope, and happiness to so many children during the holiday season. Their generosity continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Dear Editor,
In yesterday’s Stabroek News, Vincent Alexander wrote that education was free from nursery to secondary and that did not change under any administration. However, UG education was not free by any means. As a student when Alexander was the Registrar all of us had to serve National Service for 1 year. Many students left for Teachers Training College.
Now UG is truly free. The year’s earnings lost by graduating later is in the hundreds of thousands today.
Not to mention the harassment/discrimination at GNS that he and Hammie and family did not endure at Kimbia and Papaya where I “served”.
Dear Editor,
Wise King Solomon of old declared: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
I have seen the demonstration of pride and arrogance in ‘high places’, and even though I wish the individuals well, I am powerless to forestall the domino effect. I can only hope and pray for genuine repentance.
Constructive criticism benefits all who would humbly receive it. To reject such can only be to one’s detriment.
Dear Editor,
I believe the words recorded in the book of Proverbs chapter 16 verse18: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
