Dear Editor,
The brouhaha taking place at the Stabroek Market following displacement by vendors in the beautification exercise, is blamed on miscommunication by the contractor. The initiative is being rolled out by the ministry so whatever perceived miscommunication there might be ought to lie with the ministry.
The sudden, ad hoc commencement of the exercise led to the confusion. The vendors had a right to be informed beforehand. After all, this is their livelihood. Over the past several weeks vendors on the West Side were also faced with similar situations where they were told to remove from occupied locations with no alternative found for them to continue plying their trade.
The urgency to get the Georgetown beautification programme off the drawing board must be thought centered with people and business the focus. Everything does not have to be mired in controversies all the time.
