As a resident of Linden, I feel compelled to address a matter that is deeply troubling and painful for our community. In less than six months, two persons have died while in the care of the Linden Hospital Complex, reportedly due to suspected oxygen-related drug issues. These are not just incidents on a chart, these are human beings, loved ones who left home expecting care and healing, but never returned. Their families are grieving, and our community is hurting.
What makes this even more heartbreaking is the fact that these tragedies appear connected to something as basic as oxygen—one of the most essential elements of healthcare. It forces us to ask some difficult but necessary questions.
Why are critical lifesaving essentials like oxygen not being kept in sufficient supply?
Why are stronger safeguards, contingency plans, and backup systems not in place—especially knowing that emergencies can happen at any moment?
And how did our hospital, the place we all depend on in moments of fear and vulnerability, find itself unable to protect the lives entrusted to it?
Our hospital is supposed to be a place of comfort, a place where we bring our sick relatives and trust that they are safe. When that trust is shaken, it affects the entire community. We begin to worry about our elderly, our children, and anyone who might one day need urgent medical care. No one should have to question whether their hospital has something as fundamental as oxygen.
I am therefore calling on the Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, to intervene with urgency, compassion, and transparency. Lindeners deserve a full and honest investigation—not to cast blame, but to prevent further heartbreak. We need to understand what went wrong, why it went wrong, and what steps will be taken so no other family has to experience this kind of pain.
The people of Linden are strong, caring, and patient, but we cannot stay silent when lives are at stake. We deserve a hospital that is prepared, equipped, and attentive. We deserve a healthcare system that protects us, not one that leaves our families shattered by preventable loss. It is time for answers, time for improvements, and above all, time to restore trust in the institution we rely on in our most vulnerable moments.
