Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction and concern regarding the appalling delay in addressing a significant water leakage at my residence (Uitvlugt Side Line Dam, West Coast Demerara)
On November 16, 2025, I officially filed a report with the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) regarding a serious leak, and I was issued with a reference number. Today, December 12, 2025, marks nearly a month since the initial report, and no one from GWI has yet arrived to assess or fix the leakage. I made multiple follow up calls during this period, however this leakage is not fixed.
My premises are equipped with a water meter that records consumption. This raises a critical question that GWI must answer: Who will be held responsible for the cost of the substantial volume of water that has been wasted due to this unaddressed leak? Will GWI expect customers to bear the financial burden indicated on their meter for a leak that they failed to fix in a timely manner, despite being officially notified?
