Dear Editor,
As a public analyst, I am proud of the expanding opportunities now available to citizens within Guyana’s education sector. Education remains a critical pillar of national development, and recent investments reflect a strong commitment to empowering citizens while securing the future of the next generation.
The Government of Guyana has introduced several impactful programmes and institutions aimed at expanding access to quality education. The commissioning of St. George’s School of Sciences in July 2025 has strengthened specialized learning opportunities, while the establishment of Guyana’s first national law school at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus marks a historic step forward following approval by the Council for Legal Education.
Significant progress has also been made in expanding educational infrastructure across the country. President Dr. Irfaan Ali recently disclosed that 79 new schools were constructed in hinterland communities over the past four years, addressing long-standing disparities in access to education and ensuring inclusivity for remote regions. Alongside infrastructure development, human capital within the education sector has been strengthened. The training of 1,345 new teachers represents a major boost to classroom delivery, improving the quality of instruction and supporting better learning outcomes for students nationwideScholarship programmes and online learning initiatives, including the GOAL programme, have enabled thousands of Guyanese to pursue academic and professional advancement. The University of Guyana continues to record strong graduation rates, with many working adults taking advantage of flexible learning opportunities to further their education while remaining active contributors to the workforce
Beyond traditional academia, the establishment of a new aviation training institution has opened additional career pathways for aspiring pilots and other professionals. Together, these developments underscore education’s central role in Guyana’s long-term growth, resilience, and global competitiveness.
