Dear Editor,
Cameron & Shepherd, Attorneys-at-Law, extends its warmest congratulations to Mr. Rafiq Khan SC, who was sworn in as a Justice of Appeal on Tuesday last by President Irfaan Ali.
Justice of Appeal Khan joined Cameron & Shepherd as an Associate Counsel in 1987 upon graduating from Law School. He spent almost his entire career at Cameron & Shepherd, where, roaming our dusty halls and ancient library, he was mentored by some of Guyana’s best lawyers, eventually becoming a Partner. He practiced in the High Court, Court of Appeal and the CCJ and supervised much of our non-contentious work, particularly, intellectual property. The quality of his work and level of his integrity resulted in then Chancellor Desiree Bernard eventually inviting Justice Khan to apply for silk, but which took many years to materialise.
Justice Khan has served on the Rules Committee and on the Legal Practitioners Committee, which disciplines lawyers, for many years. He was a member of the Board of Directors for the Commercial Registry. He brings to the Court of Appeal several decades of experience practicing with distinction at the highest levels of the legal profession and will excel at the dispensation of justice in this next chapter of his distinguished career. The Partners and staff of Cameron & Shepherd extend their best wishes to Justice Khan.
