Dear Editor,
The holidays are once again with us. It is that time of the year when the entire mood of the nation changes to one of joy and festivity. That spirit that defined us as a people becomes much more pronounced through sharing of gifts and other acts of kindness.
This is indeed how it should be. Regrettably, Christmas is becoming increasingly commercialized and consumer-driven, with a tendency to over consume even as millions globally continue to face starvation and misery.
Yet the message of Christmas cannot be ignored. It is a universal message of humility, care and compassion, as exemplified by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I wish to take this opportunity to wish all Guyanese both at home and abroad a Merry Christmas!
