Dear Editor,
Citizens who reside in Subryanville have noted the recent actions by the Central Housing and Planning Authority in Bel Air Village as reported in the Guyana Chronicle of 13 Jan 2026 “CH&PA halts operation of unauthorised supermarket at Bel Air Village”.
We note in the article that the CH&PA has said that “The authority remains committed to upholding the law. ”
We call therefore on the CH&PA to explain to the public how they intend to uphold the law in Subryanville, where there is a private business entity that has constructed a building on the Farnum Playground. The CH&PA cannot be seen to selectively upholding the law as it regards businesses and their operations in Guyana. We repeat our calls to the CH&PA, Mayor and City Council of Georgetown and other government and regulatory bodies to restore Farnum Playground to its use as a community recreational space.
