Dear Editor,
The denial of Parliamentary decorum by Manzoor Nadir in naming the Opposition Leader (Mr. Mohamed) is downright a betrayal of democratic norms in Guyana. He should heed the call of foreign ambassadors to our country to appoint an Opposition Leader, and soon.
Is this the same Manzoor who came begging for a position at our home in 1992 (I was present) and was sent away by President elect Cheddi with nothing besides a mournful face and a deflated ego; Is this the same Manzoor who could never win a seat to Parliament without “top up” votes to secure his seat and now he blocks a person who legitimately won 16 seats in 3 months while Manzoor spent many years, never winning a legitimate seat to Parliament; is this the same Manzoor who attacked the PPP in the most vehement manner for many years and now kowtows for position and power; is this the same Manzoor who reduced the United Force from a relevant political party to a one man show starring himself and “Man-zoorism” – an ideology of self-serving opportunism, boot licking pragmatism and down-right betrayal of Peter D’Aguiar’s original United Force manifesto.
Editor, Guyana has, over the years, given us many questionable characters in our political landscape but Manzoor Nadir, besides definitely not qualified to be Speaker of the House, is a character who stands alone at the apex of political chicanery and his fall from grace is not long in the future because he is incapable of doing what’s correct.
