Dear Editor,
I have been following with interest the controversy surrounding the delayed election by the Speaker of the National Assembly. We must realize it is not business as usual; the scenario is unprecedented in the annals of Guyana’s parliamentary democracy.
The person in question, the presumptive Opposition leader is not an ordinary individual: eleven (11) criminal charges were filed against him by none other than the US government. Guyana continues to make international headlines for all the wrong reasons.
When the new Opposition leader is an alleged gold smuggler and money launderer it underscores the magnitude of moral decay.
