Dear Editor,
The PPP just cannot help itself. Back in 2014 at a farewell for US Ambassador Brent Hardt, Priya Manickchand delivered her infamous feral blast and along with Gail Teixeira strutted out of the party.
Fast forward to 2026 and the farewell for the UK High Commissioner Jane Miller, and they did it again because of the presence of a single man. But it was worse this time as it was the President of the Cooperative Republic himself who did it along with his minions, some of whom have been greatly supported by the British government personally and through their ministries.
The PPP/C must understand that the High Commissioner invited Mr Mohamed. It was her farewell party and as such this bottom house wedding behaviour is a snub against her as the host.
It was childish but typical of a party that can broker no opposition to its rule be they politicians or civil society. However, after Friday night and the rank attack on diplomats by the disgraceful Speaker of the National Assembly the narrative has turned and we can see that once again the PPP/C is isolating itself and losing the argument.
This is exactly how they lost in 2015.
As for Mr Mohamed and the hysterical warnings by the Attorney General and Mr Nascimento as to his appointment, let us consider the words of the US Ambassador who said in September:
“We have had OFAC [Office of Foreign Assets Control]-sanctioned individuals in governments in other places of the world – several in fact – and we find ways to work around that,”
So if it is workable for the country now requesting his extradition then why the fearmongering?
