Dear Editor,
On Monday history was made in Guyana. A page has been turned, and a new chapter has begun. My heart is overflowing with pride as I congratulate my brother, Azruddin Mohamed, on being elected Opposition Leader in Guyana’s 13th Parliament. This is not just a political milestone, it is a deeply personal, emotional victory born out of sacrifice, struggle, pain, resilience and unwavering faith in the people.
This journey was never easy. It was forged through political persecution, stalking, unlawful arrests, victimisation, intimidation, character assassination, harassment, legal battles, propaganda and the deliberate abuse of state power by a dictatorship that tried endlessly to silence you. The PPP used every tool they could to break your spirit, derail your purpose and make an example out of you. Yet here you stand tall: unbroken, unbowed and victorious.
They tried to erase you from the political space, but instead, they etched your name into history. Even though I am thousands of miles away, know this with certainty: I will always support you, the party and our fellow Guyanese people. Guyana will forever have my heart and my priority. Distance means nothing when your soul is tied to your homeland and its people.
I was told that ever since you were little, you carried a stern ambition and a seriousness beyond your years, a quiet determination that set you apart. And now, I see it so clearly. I see it in the way you have put aside your own life, comfort and peace for the people of Guyana. I see it in your relentless fight to ensure that every Guyanese receives justice, dignity, love and support. I see it in the sacrifices others never witness: waking up at 3 a.m. to travel to Berbice or Linden and other parts of Guyana these so-called leaders NEVER stepped foot in, surviving on little to no sleep, with little to no food, yet still showing up fully and fiercely. You show up to every single occurrence, whether it’s a grievance, a protest, a cry for help, or a moment where the people simply need someone to stand beside them. You are always there. That is what true leadership looks like. Not speeches, not dances, not lobbying and empty promises, not titles, but presence, sacrifice, commitment and courage. They can never be you, and they can never beat you.
From your earliest days, collecting countless awards in school, excelling in championships and races, proving yourself in entrepreneurship, to now standing at the forefront of Guyana’s political future, you have consistently shown what discipline, integrity and vision look like. You have achieved more in a short span of time than so-called leaders have failed to achieve in 30 years—than they could ever achieve in 100. Today is a victory, but it is also a responsibility. The work starts here. Guyana deserves transparency. Guyana deserves justice. Guyana deserves leadership that serves, not rules.
Out with dictatorship. In with democracy. PPP must go! I am endlessly proud of you, not just as a leader, but as my brother. You carry the hopes of many and you have never forgotten who you fight for. History will remember this day and it will remember your name. WIN FOREVER!
