Dear Editor,
Over the years we have seen the moral and morale decline in our nation. Those charged with the good governance of this land have brought our living to its Nadir. In too many areas of national existence the decline has been woeful. In the uniform services we have observed the politicising of the Police Service Commission where ‘our boys’ have been installed in senior positions to the detriment of the Organisation. Where debauchery is now the main topic on the curriculum of the Police Training School: Where seniors have been sanctioned by US officials. Our president just like an irresponsible father, who has blown family resources, goes on national news media and makes mockery of suffering citizens 60 percent of whom live below the poverty line. The unchecked influx of Venezuelans has also been making adverse dents in our communities. They harshly compete with us for scarce resources.
Officialdom is most content to lament that our people are not interested in employment opportunities. The best employment status seems to be that of government minister. Here one can apparently amass great wealth in a short space of time. Many ministers seem to have availed themselves of the limitless opportunities in their ministries. Many seem to own businesses and properties overseas. The vast emphasis on infrastructural development has not made much positive impact on the national economy. At Columbia on the eastern seaboard we observe many small but inoperative gensets that presumably were to be used to ease our blackouts. The road building is a mess since many roads have not been properly surfaced leading to discomfiture when used. Monies expended here seem like sinecures for the boys.
Much has always been promised around elections time, but little has resulted when the incumbents got back to ‘power’. People need real assurances if this nation is to be equitably develop-ed. More oil discoveries have been made, but no real disclosures as to the amounts found have been published. The oil audits have shown that we are being deceived all along. Ring fencing, which is an important tool in oil exploration, has been put on the back burner. Editor, we are a true third world nation boasting of high GDP and so on. The wealth is being shared upstairs whilst the rest of us who dwell downstairs are left out of the bonanza. Hopefully this nation does not implode.
