Dear Editor,
We write collectively as a class of students enrolled in an academic programme offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open Univer-sity (IGNOU) and awarded through the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL).
Our programme began in 2021 and was expected to conclude in 2024. Since then, as a class, we have been observing the prolonged silence, shifting timelines, and lack of clear communication surrounding the completion and status of our degrees. Despite numerous emails and formal follow-ups sent by students, meaningful updates remain scarce.
In our efforts to seek assistance and resolution, we have reached out through various appropriate channels, including engaging relevant authorities and offices such as the Office of the President and other bodies we believed could help facilitate clarity. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, there has still been no satisfactory resolution or direct engagement from IGNOU regarding our concerns.
We have watched as deadlines passed without explanation. We have watched as students attempted, individually and collectively, to seek clarity, only to be met with delays or no response at all. While we remain respectful of institutional processes, the continued uncertainty has left our entire class in a state of limbo.
For many of us, these qualifications are directly tied to employment opportunities, promotions, further studies, and long-term planning. The absence of transparency affects not only our academic standing but also our confidence in systems designed to expand access to higher education for Guyanese students.
GOAL represents a national commitment to educational opportunity. As a class, we still believe in that mission. However, belief must be reinforced by accountability, timely communication, and concrete action. At this stage, we are not asking for assurances alone, we are asking for clarity.
We remain attentive. We remain patient. But most importantly, as a class, we are watching and waiting for responsible action to follow.
