Dear Editor,
Witnessing the heavy-handed behaviour of the Government over the past few months, and with the belief that the Government with its Parliamentary majority will continue to ignore the issues raised by the opposition members; the people cannot be faulted to expect opposition parties to collaborate.
APNU, the group that has been around for a long time, could have shown better judgement by not walking out before the Opposition Leader was declared. The act of walking out of any meeting sends the message that one does not agree with what is taking place in the meeting.
Perception plays a massive role in politics, and though APNU reasoned why it walked out, the people may be left with the belief that the combined opposition would not be acting as one in the nation’s best interest.
Whether they are supporters of all the opposition parties, non-partisan individuals or not-with-my-approval PPP/C supporters, Guyanese desperately need the outnumbered opposition, to act with a united front, doing their utmost to hold the Government to its promises to the country.
The hope is that the walk-out is really not an indicator of future behaviour among the opposition members.
