Dear Editor,
Now that the likes of Ralph Gonsalves (loser of the recent general elections and former PM of St. Vincent) are being removed by the peoples of the Caribbean it is important to understand that all those who stand with Maduro type dictators while cloaking with the false slogan of “the Caribbean is a Zone of peace” are in for a shock. More big names will come crashing down and Mottley of Barbados might be next.
Imagine that Sir Ronald Sanders, (who, in my youth was known to me as Ronald Singh) recently gifted with “honorary” degrees and a powerful position at our University, has the temerity to push that slogan and furthermore, criticize Prime Minister Kamla of Trinidad and Tobago for taking very pro-American positions in our region. Sanders, representing Antigua, a country which had close ties to the Maduro dictatorship, thinks that his column in KN is camouflaging his real intent of serving the Caribbean handmaidens of Venezuela – Antigua, St. Vincent, Barba-dos and others. How can the Caribbean be a zone for peace when narco-terrorism, international visa fraud and alignments to aggressive dictators is the reality?
Editor, ExxonMobil’s exploration of the Trinidad oil basin with new discoveries of oil and a willing partner with PM Kamla’s government is a blessing for Guyana because the increased wealth from Exxon’s investments along with the energy infrastructure of T&T (which Guyana is lacking) will propel Kamla’s Trinidad into the powerhouse of the Caribbean and spill over to her sister country, Guyana. Look at the benefits Exxon has brought us and there are still those like GHK Lall and Christopher Ram who have the “gumption” to attack Exxon’s presence in our country.
Editor, we should follow PM Kamla ‘s efforts to stamp out corruption, crime and strengthening of the moral fabric of T&T – we should study and enforce these same remedies in Guyana; we should embrace her analysis that CARICOM is dysfunctional and great change is needed; we should recognize that PM Kamla’s stand on defending Guyana; we should follow her embrace in welcoming Exxon to T&T and stop complaining about Exxon ripping us off when, in fact, we get lots of money from oil but we need leaders like Kamla who do not tolerate corruption, squandermania and communist/socialist thinking; every one of our leaders should take a pilgrimage to meet and have serious talks with PM Kamla, who has the intelligence, wisdom and experience, with fortitude and guts, to really re-define Caribbean unity and strength.
