Dear Editor,
Two items caused consternation among citizens.
It was reported the President was in receipt of an award from a neighbouring state to the south. This is an affront to the sense and sensibilities of Guyanese. For several years deserving Guyanese have been denied national awards. But on a trot an award is given. It cannot be right or fair that you accept what you deny to your own countryman
The second and most glaring has to do with the forty million allocation to a ‘defunct’ agency which has not served its purpose or mandate for over a decade. Is defiance being awarded? Pensioners and public assistance get a paltry increase in the people first budget but an agency, established with all good intentions, having failed to deliver is ‘awarded’.
These acts are an affront which jar and rub raw and do not sit well with the masses.
