Dear Editor,
As a senior citizen, I request a space in your newspaper to share my profound appreciation for the recent budget presentation by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.
The Honourable Minister’s speech was far more than a defence of budgetary allocations; it was a masterful, passionate, and deeply “human-services” articulation of what governance must mean.
In an environment where political discourse often descends into noise, Minister Vindhya stood as a pillar of integrity. Her immediate correction of falsehoods – from the modest size of her secretariat was a powerful reminder that public service demands honesty and truth above all.
What was truly extraordinary was how the debate was transformed from figures on a page into a compelling narrative of hope, dignity, and national transformation. The Minister did not speak of abstract billions but gave that money a human face and a beating heart.
The passionate advocacy for the Care Economy is revolutionary. By championing the move “from unpaid care to paid care,” the Ministry is dismantling generational barriers for women and creating a new, dignified economic sector. This, alongside the pioneering Gender Empowerment Seal and the visionary Golden Generation Hubs, demonstrates a forward-thinking leadership committed to a more inclusive and compassionate Guyana.
The Minister’s closing remarks resonated with poetic force. Her vision of “the Guyana that was and the Guyana that must be” and the profound statement that “we are not just managing fiscal projections; we are nurturing a nation” crystallised the entire purpose of this budget. She compelled us all to look beyond infrastructure and see the grandmother, the student, the entrepreneur—the people at the centre of every policy.
The presentation was a “tour de force” of principled leadership, rooted in a powerful belief in the potential of every Guyanese. Our Minister and her team have championed the people with unwavering clarity, compassion, and conviction.
Thank you for this exemplary service and for reminding us what truly people-centred leadership looks like, Minister Persaud.
