Dear Editor,
The news of the impending closure of one of the daily newspaper houses, Stabroek News was both surprising, mixed with a tinge of sadness. The abruptness and suddenness is what makes it hard to fathom.
The reasons proffered are the known elements.
I will miss the letter and Editorial columns.
Maybe this decision was in the making for some time but its suddenness, with just a month’s notice, to staff members, it has to be asked is this fair?
Lives and livelihoods have suddenly been turned upside down.
A more amenable arrangement would have been to make the announcement and give a three months notice to staff, in order to be able to make a smooth transition. One month’s notice just does not cut it.
Is there an imminent buyer or takeover in the background?
SN cannot just fade into nothingness.
