Dear Editor,
I am very sad to read of the demise of ‘my’ paper the Stabroek News. It begat Bill Cotton/Reform twenty years ago. David de Caires was a brave and great editor. He backed his hacks. Some since have not been as bold.
Guyana will miss David’s creation born in dictatorship and been oppositional – maybe too much so – since. Guyana needs quality journalism with thoughtful writing away from the propagandists on all sides.
The market is now open for a decent piece of daily journalism but not one printed on dead trees. Digital has always been the future. It has taken the death of several British newspapers for the UK media to get this message. Guyana now has the chance to enter this new world. It just needs imagination, vision and not a little capital.
Who will step forward to fill the vacuum?
