Dear Editor,
I write simply to say thank you. Stabroek News has helped me to become a writer. I began writing to the newspapers because of Stabroek, and over the years you have given me a voice.
You published many letters about my experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan—about my injuries and the traumatic realities of war. For that, I thank you.
You published my letters about my family member who was raped and about the alleged cover-up by the police. For that courage in printing difficult truths, I thank you.
You shared my reflections on the fortunate and unfortunate experiences of repatriating to live in Guyana. Thank you.
You published my painful story of growing up in one of the most deprived, impoverished, and violent communities (Albouystown) in Guyana. Thank you.
You printed my account of being denied entry into Suriname—despite having visited 60 countries—and my concerns regarding the response of the Guyana Foreign Affairs Office. Thank you.
You also published my story about going to America and overcoming the odds.
Through all of these experiences, you allowed me to tell my story in my own words. For that opportunity, I am deeply grateful.
This will be my last letter to Stabroek.
