Dear Editor,
The closing of Stabroek News feels like the death of a dear friend. For many of us who have read, written, and found our voices in your pages, this is not merely the end of a publication — it is the loss of a companion that walked with us through decades of national triumphs, tragedies, debates, and personal milestones.
Many of your loyal readers are grieving. We feel the absence deeply. Your newspaper was more than ink and paper; it was a forum for truth, accountability, and expression. It gave ordinary citizens a voice and made us feel heard.
It may therefore be fitting to treat this closing as we would the passing of a loved one — with a wake or gathering where readers, writers, and supporters can come together to share memories, express gratitude, and collectively mourn this tremendous loss. Such a gathering would provide the closure many of us need in order to heal.
I would even be willing to offer my home as a place for such a wake, or perhaps a suitable venue could be rented to accommodate the many who may wish to attend.
Thank you for the years of service, courage, and commitment to the people of Guyana. Though the presses may fall silent, the impact of your work will endure.
