On behalf of the seventy-eight member organizations, Coordinating Council, and staff of the International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly – Guyana (IDPADA-G), I extend our deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of your father, the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
Reverend Jackson’s moral leadership and unwavering advocacy for civil rights, social justice, and human dignity left an indelible mark on the modern world. His work transformed public discourse, expanded opportunity for countless people, and advanced the cause of equality in ways that resonated far beyond the United States. Across the African diaspora, including here in Guyana, his voice was recognized as one of courage, conviction, and principled leadership.
Your visit to Guyana in 2024, including your engagement with members of the Cane View/Mocha Arcadia community and your dialogue with IDPADA-G, was received with deep appreciation. At a time when many sought acknowledgement and understanding, your willingness to listen and to engage conveyed a meaningful expression of solidarity. For many in our community, your presence reflected values long associated with your father’s legacy — a commitment to standing with those whose concerns are too often unheard.
As we mourn Reverend Jackson’s passing, we also honor the enduring legacy he leaves behind — a legacy grounded in service, compassion, and the pursuit of justice. We recognise, as well, the continuity of that legacy in your own public service and principled engagement with communities at home and abroad.
Please know that the people of African descent in Guyana join you and your family in mourning this profound loss. We offer our prayers for strength and comfort and our enduring respect for a life that contributed so greatly to the advancement of humanity.
