Dear Editor,
I write with a sense of sadness upon learning of the upcoming closure of Stabroek News in March.
Over the years, your publication has provided an invaluable platform not only for professional journalists, but for ordinary citizens like myself who wished to share observations, concerns, and perspectives on matters affecting our country. In a society where many voices often struggle to be heard, Stabroek News created space for public discourse, civic engagement, and thoughtful debate.
As a contributor, I have deeply appreciated the opportunity to bring my views and concerns to a wider audience. That access is not something to be taken lightly. It reflects a commitment to democratic principles, transparency, and the belief that public dialogue strengthens a nation.
The closure of such an institution marks the end of an era in Guyanese media. Regardless of differing opinions expressed within its pages, Stabroek News consistently upheld the importance of free expression and public accountability. That contribution to national conversation will not be easily replaced.
I extend my gratitude to the editors, journalists, and staff who worked tirelessly to maintain a space where voices like mine could be heard. Your service to the reading public and to aspiring writers has made a meaningful impact.
