Guyanese are repeatedly told that Guyana’s laws will always be applied equally to everyone regardless of their position, wealth or connections.
Even if road-accident victim, Waveney Fernandes, evidently a not-wealthy person having to do two jobs to survive, accepts any offered financial compensation, the dangerous driving case must still be pursued.
Financial settlements to avoid dangerous driving convictions, especially with Guyana’s high rate of road fatalities, must never be allowed to cancel the charges, something which happened in the past.
The Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions have the duty to be diligent in evidence gathering to make sure that justice is done.
Businessman Riyad Ahmad must be treated as any ordinary Guyanese would be. The law should be allowed its natural course, in Guyana too.
