Dear Editor,
Looking around at all that is happening or more to the point, not happening in the country, one cannot help but feel that Guyana is in a slumber. A laid back attitude pervades one’s sensibilities that we are just trudging along, in a happy go lucky mode.
The many ills facing society does not seem to carry the urgency to get things done, corrected or fixed. The usual response of casting aspersions, laying blame elsewhere and finger pointing is the quick fix response.
The case of the teen mother impregnated and who is now dead, has been met with perceived mute action in determining who raped her leading to her becoming pregnant. This has to be seen as an indictment on us as a nation. A young life gone leaving behind a small, tender life and like it does not matter.
Where our conscience…is where our soul…is where are the voices, which were once loud and clear in calling for justice? Guyana needs to wake up and arise from this stupor and energize or we will all be consumed by the many lamentations which confront us daily. Our inactions may come back to haunt us.
