Dear Editor,
With cost overruns and extensive delays, the public must demand accountability. Those in charge of the Gas to Energy project and GPL must be held accountable for not planning for the worst-case scenario to avoid cost overruns and blackouts. If the project was phased and power generation was planned for via traditional methods or non-renewable sources the need for the power ship would have disappeared.
Who should be held accountable? Is it VP Jagdeo who seems to be running the overall strategy or is it those reporting to him and following his orders? The pipeline should have never been laid so early. It is now accumulating interest while not generating income. It is unfortunate, but it is important to note that the VP’s track record for project management is less than acceptable, and his projects have flopped or have been nonstarters. There is a history of cost overruns and a lack of deliverables being achieved. Maybe it is time for the VP to retire so those with a successful track record may take over. Waste not want not has been forgotten during this transformative period.
