If the U.S can, we can as well!

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt put it best during the most recent press briefing on negotiations with Iran.

She stated that President Trump will negotiate a deal that puts America and American interests first. This is an admirable position being taken by the U.S President on behalf of his country, and we the Guyanese people must also expect and demand this of our leaders as well.

Our President must also negotiate a deal with Exxon that puts all Guyanese citizens and Guyana first.

This means that independent of the perspectives shared by those that support Exxon, which is an American company, we must remember and hold fast to the importance of our independence and the importance of having a perspective that any deal with a foreign company must put Guyana first.

The U.S. rightly shares this perspective in their negotiations on behalf of their country and their companies, and we too must take such a negotiating posture and renegotiate the deal with Exxon as soon as possible during this uncertain period in the oil and gas sector. The time to act is now and it is unacceptable for further delays to occur.

No excuse for not renegotiating the contract with Exxon should be accepted by the electorate.
