It seemed to be a good method chosen by the government for the payment of the $100,000 cash grant. Hopefully, citizens without bank accounts and the great percentage of those living below the poverty line, were able to obtain the necessary amount to open an account. Maybe assistance was given from relatives or friends, based on reimbursement upon receiving the grant.
With the expectation that the banks would be filled with people trying to access the grant, lanes solely for that purpose, could have been established. I can’t say whether the Banks were approached for such cooperation.
Oil rich countries are required to use their wealth to improve the lives of their citizens through effective social services among other means. Cash grants, especially irregular and inconsequential, will not improve the health and overall wellbeing of citizens. Which path is our government going to take? Are they going to choose between cash grants, social services, infrastructure or a combination of all? Seven years has passed since oil production. Maybe all three will be fitting at this stage. Whatever is done, the masses need relief.
