Dear Editor,
I take this opportunity to wish every mother a Happy Mother’s Day, even though I’m conscious that, for some, it may not be a happy day!
As I wrote the date on this letter, 8th May, it struck me that this is the day on which my mother died a few decades ago. She taught us to embrace truth, righteousness; the benefits of hard work, respect for others, and the fear of God!
Years ago, one of my brothers (long deceased) was sent on a work/training assignment to a Communist country. While there, he and others were being told that there is no God. He had related to me that when he could take it no longer, he raised his hand (in the forum) and declared…I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth!
This incident came to mind as I lay in bed early this morning, pondering on the injustices and inequity in our society.
I’ve read of persons, no doubt poor, being remanded for having a few grams of ganja, while persons with ample resources, allegedly trafficking guns and pounds of illicit substances, were granted one million dollars bail!
I read of persons with legally acquired weapons, who have been charged with no offence, being stripped of their protection, while others under investigation are allegedly in possession of their personal weapons.
I believe in a level playing field! I hate injustice, regardless of who the players are!
I join with my deceased brother and declare…I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth! Someone has said…”The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine”. My mother used to say “moon ah run till day ketch am.”
Delay is not necessarily denial. I have confidence in the Almighty who sits on His throne. Time is in His hands. Sometimes He laughs. Sometimes He smiles. Sometimes He thunders! It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God! (Hebrews 10:31)
