Dear Editor,
ON this 60th Diamond Jubilee Independence Anniversary, I Brian Tiwarie, Executive Chairman of the BK Group of Companies and former Honorary Consul for Spain to Guyana, on behalf of my dedicated staff and workers, join Guyanese at home and across the diasporas in celebrating our nation’s cherished and well-deserved 60th independence anniversary achieved on May 26, 1966.
It was a momentous occasion for all Guyanese when the British flag, the Union Jack, was lowered, and Guyana’s beautiful Golden Arrowhead was raised. Tears flowed down the faces of many who witnessed the ceremony at the National Park.
Sixty years of sovereignty and nation building has profoundly tested our resilience and patience, especially in protecting our treasured borders, showcased our cultural diversity, priceless heritage, strengthened our unity and affirmed our motto: ‘One People, One Nation, One Destiny,’ and our proud ‘One Guyana’ initiative.
From our rivers and rainforests in the interior to the streams, lakes and fertile lands on the coastal region, Guyana stands proudly today as an acclaimed prominent and respected member of the Global Community of Nations.
The BK Group of Companies is thrilled to stand with the glorious sons and daughters of the soil and the generations building our future to salute our pioneers and renowned leaders who fought bravely and steadfastly for independence.
As we celebrate this historic and blessed Diamond Jubilee Independence Anniversary, we at the BK Group of Companies extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to His Excellency, the President, the Honourable Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali; Honourable Brigadier (Rtd) Mark Phillips, Prime Minister; the Honourable Dr Bharat Jagdeo, Vice President; Ministers and the Government of Guyana for their continued vision and stewardship to develop and transform Guyana.
