Dear Editor,
I attempted to take a leisurely ride with my bicycle at the refurbished Joe Viera Park on the Independence Day holiday and was rudely stopped at the gate “Park yuh cycle outside.” So recreational cycling is not allowed in a modern state of the art park.
Similarly, I tried to take a cycle ride at 4 pm a day in this week at the National Park, and was yelled at by the guard and stared down by a park official with glaring hostility. So recreational cycling is also restricted at the National Park.
So, of course, I was forced out of the safety of recreational spaces onto the seawall to be chased by stray dogs and onto the roadways to risk my life at the hands of the very careful minibus drivers that we are blessed with in GT.
The backwardness of Guyanese society is distressingly appalling.
I am not even frustrated or fed up. Just resigned to the stupidity that passes for sense in this country in the year 2026.
