Dear Editor,
At the home game of Knicks versus Spurs at Madison Square Garden a week ago that was attended by President Trump, he made brief spontaneous on the spot comments about Guyana. It was carried live on TV and social media. There was a female who sought a photo op with the President as he engaged the media. Trump agreed.
When the Afro female went up to the President, he asked her where she is from. She responded, Guyana. The President commented something like Jim Jones, connecting the country with that notorious incident in 1978 that took hundreds of lives in a mass suicide or murder in the jungle of our then unknown country. Then Trump stated, I love Guyana. Trump’s comments suggest that the President has good memory about some knowledge of Guyana. He met President Ali last March in Miami and knows about our issues with Venezuela and security. Guyana should strengthen ties with USA, even becoming some kind of ally. Under this presidency, we could get visa waiver to travel to America if we cultivate a strong relationship.
