Dear Editor,
THE public celebration and mockery by Opposition politicians surrounding the passing of Don Singh is not merely distasteful; it is a pathetic, cowardly display that exposes their utter lack of moral fibre and basic human decency.
While these small-minded individuals attempt to weaponise a tragedy for cheap political points, they only succeed in highlighting their own irrelevance. Don Singh was a giant compared to the politicians now gloating in the shadows. He was a man of fierce conviction, razor-sharp wit, and an unyielding determination to secure and protect democracy in Guyana. When democratic institutions faced threats, Don stood on the front lines, refusing to be silenced or intimidated.
His passion for his country was matched only by his dedication to its capital. As a relentless advocate for the renewal of Georgetown, Don fought tirelessly to elevate the standard of life for city residents. He demanded better infrastructure, accountability from the Mayor and City Council, and a city that its people could finally be proud of. He saw the potential for greatness in our capital, and dedicated his energy to making that vision a reality.
To those Opposition politicians who think his passing is an occasion for celebration, your vitriol only confirms how deeply his truths cut. You feared his wit, you were threatened by his conviction, and you could never match his determination.
Don Singh’s legacy is etched into the struggle for a democratic Guyana and a better Georgetown. It is a legacy that will outlast the petty malice of his detractors. I condemn these repulsive actions in the strongest possible terms and demand an immediate, public retraction and apology from those responsible.
RIP my brother, Don! Guyana is poorer with your passing!
