Reference is made to an article on page 8 of Kaieteur News, Thursday, June 25th, 2026, bearing the caption “Doctors fired over toddler’s death quietly rehired by Ministry of Health, placed at Diamond hospital.”
The first paragraph of the said article alleges that “the Ministry of Health has reportedly rehired two doctors terminated by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for gross negligence.”
Please be informed that while the contracts of the two doctors named in the article, Dr Marissa Seepersaud and Dr Yala Gomez, were indeed terminated by the Georgetown Public Hospital, the terminations were executed in accordance with the terms of each contract, and the two doctors were paid in full, all their benefits, including salary, gratuity, allowances, vacation allowance, monies for leave earned under the contract, along with salary in lieu of notice.
For the avoidance of doubt, neither contract of employment was terminated for gross negligence as alleged in the article or at all. You must be aware of the damning impact your allegations have, if left unanswered.
In the circumstance, we request that the appropriate correction and or retraction be made by you at the earliest next opportunity and that the same be accorded the same prominence which the offensive article enjoys.
