Dear Editor,
A good worker cleans up when his task is completed. It seems that the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) feel they are supposed to uproot a road to replace any old pipes or to insert additional ones and leave ruptured roads and rubble behind.
If this is their entitlement, which agency is assigned to restore the road to its former state to prevent it being a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles?
It is commendable that the GWI is paying attention to ensuring an efficient water supply to residents. However, ironically and simultaneously, they are creating a safety hazard for the public. The remaining rubble has filled the gutters, causing an overflow of water when it rains. This water then enters people’s yards.
After they worked on William Street, Kitty, the road became unsightly and dangerous. It remains so. Traffic jams are now common on the eastern part of the street, as two churches and a large school are based there. This results in road rage, loss of productivity and disgruntled users of this narrow and main artery.
It will be highly appreciated if the GWI and the Mayor and City Council collaborate to fix this severe problem.
