Dear Editor,
The amount of money being spent on the wasteful undertaking of hiring the power ships could have been used to provide 60% of our households with a solar power system.
This would have provided the energy independence needed by all Guyanese, while also eliminating the need for the gas to energy plant and accelerating the green energy transition within our nation. After all, we are a nation that is pursuing leadership in ecotourism and trying to set the standard for forestry conservation and low carbon emissions.
In addition, if the amount being spent on the poorly managed gas to energy project was also used to provide Guyanese households with solar systems our population would be energy independent and we would have achieved an energy expense that is better than a 50% reduction in total annual electricity cost as proposed by the government’s gas to energy project. Comrade Ali and his administration continue to show our nation and the world that they cannot be trusted to properly manage the finances of Guyana. We can no longer place our trust and confidence in the current administration.
Comrades, fellow Guyanese, we need a government that will do better. We need a government that will secure the financial future of all Guyanese for generations to come. The current administration has wasted and continue to waste the resources and opportunities currently available, and we must put in place a government whose top priority is the people of our beautiful land. We need a government that understands and accepts that we the people are not second to their accumulation of personal wealth. Comrade Ali and his team must remember that they serve at the will of the people.
