Dear Editor,
Mindful Guyana Inc. invites members of the public to participate in a Silent Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Street Avenue, between Quamana and Middle Streets, subject to the relevant official approvals. The vigil will last for one hour.
The event is a non-political, non-religious, humanitarian gathering designed to bring together people from every community, background, and belief in a shared expression of compassion, reflection, and hope.
At a time when many individuals and families continue to experience the effects of violence, tragedy, and personal loss, the vigil seeks to create a peaceful space where Guyanese can stand together in silent solidarity. Through the simple act of lighting candles, participants will honour the memory of those whose lives have been lost, support those who continue to grieve, and reaffirm a collective commitment to peace, kindness, and respect for the sanctity of human life.
The overarching purpose of the vigil is to encourage healing, foster empathy, and strengthen the bonds that unite our nation. It is an opportunity for citizens to demonstrate that, despite our differences, we share a common desire for safer communities, mutual respect, and a more compassionate Guyana.
The programme will be conducted in silence to allow for personal reflection and collective remembrance. Participants are encouraged to wear white or light-coloured clothing if possible and to bring a candle with an appropriate wind guard. The event will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Mindful Guyana Inc. emphasises that the vigil is not intended to advance any political, religious, or partisan agenda. Rather, it is a humanitarian initiative that welcomes all persons who wish to join in a dignified expression of unity, healing, and hope for our country.
The organization is working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure that the event is conducted safely, respectfully, and in an orderly manner.
Mindful Guyana Inc. extends a warm invitation to all Guyanese, civil society organisations, faith-based organizations, youth groups, professional bodies, and community leaders to participate in this meaningful national observance.
Together, through silence, remembrance, and shared humanity, we can send a powerful message that every life matters, compassion is stronger than division, and hope remains the foundation upon which we build a peaceful future for Guyana.
