Dear Editor,
SIR Garfield Sobers was far more than the greatest all-round cricketer the game has ever known; he was a true statesman who represented Barbados, the West Indies, and the sport of cricket with unmatched honour, humility, integrity, and grace.
His extraordinary achievements on the field set a standard of excellence that may never be equaled, while his character, sportsmanship, and humanity off the field inspired generations of cricketers and admirers across the world.
He was the benchmark for true leadership, legendary performance, and selfless service to the game he loved.
I will always cherish the unforgettable memories of watching you play at the historic Bourda Cricket Ground in Guyana, and later at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in England. Those moments were not just displays of cricketing brilliance; they were lessons in courage, dignity, and excellence.
Sir Garfield, your legacy will forever live on in the hearts of cricket lovers everywhere. Thank you for the countless memories, the inspiration, and the pride you brought to the Caribbean and the world.
You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
May you rest in eternal peace.
