Dear Editor,
I have a fundamental love for Guyana. It is my country of birth and my invested interest in what goes on in my country and that loyalty leads me to voice my concerns and I am also glad to do this through this medium, Kiskadee Watch, a competent and dignified online news outlet.
Editor as we continue to mourn the loss of over one hundred people including children I am wondering if the government of the day is fully equipped with the necessary resources be it financial and technical to deal with this national tragedy.
I say this to say because many have opined that oil is raking in billions of dollars but on the flip side one is also going to argue where are those millions going? Editor as a thriving nation I am asking do we have a decent helicopter for our army and also do we have modern public transportation whether those are to traverse sea or land? Whether the answers to those questions are yes or no we know by now that we don’t and further those monies that we are earning from oil must be used to have the apparatus mentioned and a lot more.
The government should centre their attention on harnessing some of our small waterfalls in order to alleviate the cost of electricity. Guyana by now should have efficient and stable electricity.
Editor the government of the day should by now set up a disaster fund in the case of an oil spill. Guyana should have properly constructed roads and last but not least Guyana should now start to train sufficient trauma experts and psychologists in the event of another major disaster. Editor the government of the day needs to be prepared and not wait until something happens to be caught off-guard.
Any thriving nation equipped with right thinking wanna-be leaders would put people first. No president should have acres of lands invested in poultry and his country don’t have a proper ferry to transport its people from point A to point to Z, that’s abuse and selfishness.
